She sounded very subdued, and before I called her I tried to think of any problems I'd had with her daughter, any missing assignments, behavior issues, whatever, and I couldn't think of one. When I reached her she said she had found my name on a detention slip from over a month ago, so she decided to call me. It turned out the call had nothing to do with the month-old detention. On Wed. she had gone through her 12 year old daughter's bookbag and found something (?) that led her to her daughter's homepage at MyPlace.com. The minimum age for this site is 14, but apparently there is no enforcement. What she found was devastating. Her daughter's page was full of sexually explicit text, sexual preferences, lewd and obscene jokes, and similar blog entries from others posted on her page. I think she called me because she just didn't know who else to call. She had dealt with changing the password, and her birth place, and the internet provider (aol), and had taken the keyboard and locked it in her trunk.
Kids see so incredibly much on tv, movies, hear it in music lyrics, see it in clothing stores.Hormones given to cattle for growth are found in mother's milk. They are maturing too fast. Sex sells. And parents who aren't paying attention think their kids are "just playing video games" on the computer.
Just an example of what you're writing about...mcsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
